How to Dress up a New Fence

Fences are great to enhance your property. They work well for privacy, to keep in pets and just for added protection of your home, but they don’t always look the best. No matter what type of fencing you’re installing on your property, you should think about dressing it up to make it look even better. There are a bunch of different ways to dress up your fencing, and it’s important to consider what options you have available and the final look that you want to achieve.

Paint or Stain

One of the simplest ways to dress up a wooden fence is with paint or stain. Pick out a color that complements your home well and add paint or stain to it to give it a fresh look that really pops. Just make sure that you test out the color on a small bit of the fence before you commit to adding it to the entire thing. This is the only way that you’ll be able to decide what looks best and which color you actually want to go with.

Fancy Posts or Finials

Consider using decorative fence posts, finials or post toppers to add a bit more style to your fencing. These are made from a variety of materials and come in special shapes and designs. Relying on these decorative enhancements can give you the new look that you’re going for without being too much added work.

Thoughtful Landscaping

Adding shrubs around your fencing, including pavers in front of your gate, making flower beds and other minor enhancements are all thoughtful ways that you can dress up your fence and make your property look nicer.

Decorative Gate

Gates are the most common way to get in and out of fencing, but many are pretty dull to look at. To spice up your fence, consider relying on arched gates or other decorative flourishes that will really stand out nicely.
No matter how you dress up your fence, just make sure that whatever you choose looks nice and enhances the finish of your existing fence. Local professionals can help you with more complex tasks like adding a decorative gate, but many homeowners have no trouble with jobs like adding some decorative plants or a fresh coat of paint or stain.
